yeah we spoke to him first, and got permission. He wants a finished lump for his kitchen, so me and a leather worker are going to make him a small paddle hone with a leather back. Most of the stone we collected isn't actually for razors. There was a lump of CF found at the lunt roman fort in bagington Coventry. Lunt Roman Fort | A turf and timber Roman fort near Coventry
We're trying to make a lump that can be passed around and shown off as a sharpening stone from the era so the kids can feel how a stone works. So far none of the lumps we took have made anything remotely close to what was found. I'm hopeful that there will be a lump in the shed that will make a good square section for them.

Thanked: 202Good to hear that such a good guy is kept happy. It would be shame to loose his friendly understanding for people like us. Just remember that in those times they were not square.

Thanked: 4207Ran a few blades across my new old finisher last night for a test drive.
Using light grade sewing machine oil and a gentle stroke, great stone feedback, seems better than my cnat 12k, feedback wise.
Finished up a Shumate, a Filly stainless, and a few others including a frameback from Sweden.
Under the 30X loupe the edge finish looked good, very close scratch marks from the stone, could see they were closer together and removing the previous 8 k scratches well.
arm/leg hair test had them popping off mid length.
Shave test tonight..
Cheers.

Thanked: 4207This is a great hone. I've now used it on stainless steel, TIs, extra hollow ground Solingen steel, and American steel as well.
I use it after my cnat as a slow, 100stroke finisher using light oil, and find it is really good at shining up the bevels sides and refining the edge just that little bit more.
Followed up on an English bridal 3" strop for 70-100 laps and I am getting smooth feedback when I shave.
I am still waiting for a ZG 8x3 stone to complete my finishing stone line up, but this vintage CF has set the bar pretty high..
Cheers gents.
