See "I found it over there" thread.

One must generally test every stone to see what it's capable of. I pre-flatten with a masonry cutting blade, then use sandpaper on a (machinist) surface plate (overkill) to get it really flat. If i continue at this, i'll get the XXC DMT for the purpose.

You think?? Man I think that's a great idea! I wish I had more than paper and a flat slab oh granite lol.

I would love to get a DMT too.

Are you sure there is only one kind of slate in Italy? or it's a specific kind of slate named like that? In every country there are lots of slates. Few of them will definitely be good.
I know that UK has many, and so does China and Germany. Here in Greece, we have more than 10 different kinds. Most are used for decorative purposes, and few of them are actual finishers.

Works great for the soft stuff i'm finding around here. Really challenging for the harder rock sent to me by a forum member. I'd certainly get diamond power cutting tools if i was working with much hard rock.

Not sure, maybe in some place there is some kind of slate that could be suitable for razors but at today we haven't found.
I live near the place where is mined the slate used for pooltable or blackboard as in the old school time.
