Thread: chosera making a new line..

about a 2 months ago i bought the chosera 600 1k 3k and 5k.. after using them .. the 600 started crazing and no matter how many times i lapped it , under the loupe it looked like a small divot was missing out of the stone.. kept lapping and lapping same problem.. the 1k is fantastic .. same for the 3k im keeping an eye on my 5k now.. not only is it thristy but its starting not to look right.. I contacted Mark at chefs knives to go.. He explains to me that chosera now has a new stone coming out that will be thinner and no longer coming with a nagura.. so i guess chosera was aware of the problems.. lets wait and see..

Do you permasoak it? On the CKTG forum there is some discussion about naniwas and choseras cracking if permasoaked. I have the 1k as well and its terrific! I used to soak for about 15 min but after reading some of the problems, I've gone to just spray and go.

Mark didn't mention anything about a reformulation of the stone. It just looks like a huge price increase. For 20% more than the current price, you get 20% less stone, but they throw away that cleaning thing at the factory instead of shipping it around the world for you to throw away.
