    Default Chosera 1k drying time

    Hello guys,

Recently I bought a Chosera 1k. I have used it three times with great results, although I am experiencing an issue. It seems like some certain parts of the stone will not dry. Is this ordinary?

Three days after the honing session

Mine did that too. No idea why. It seems to have stopped since I started using the Nagura to clean the stone after use. No idea why.

Maybe the base is holding water I have the Chosera 1K and 5K without the base and they dry very quickly and evenly, try turning your stone so the base is on top and the water cannot hold there while drying.

Interesting idea. I never thought of that.

If you think about it the water cannot leave or evaporate from the base of the stone as this is fixed and bonded it's quite logical for moisture to travel out through the face of the stone.

When I am done honing I will clean up the stones in the sink, lay out a towel and sit the stones up on edge so that they will drain/dry properly. I do it longwise, but lengthwise would work too I am sure. Tthe main reason for the towel is so that the stones will not slip on the countertop while leaned up against the wall/backsplash.

Did you soak the hone? There is a little contradictory information on the Chosera hones....manufacturer says splash and go and even the websites that sell them say they are hearing generally good results (improved) can be had from soaking them for 15 minutes.
An interesting thing happened on my 5K Chosera as it is drying it looks like there are cracks in the surface....wrote seller and he said: soak for 5 minutes.

Got cracks in my 1K also. Soak less enjoy it more. Never use hot water, it causes a weird white effluent.

I hone over the laundry sink on a wooden bridge. I rinse my stones well and place on end leaning against the wall of the sink overnight. Let gravity do the work. They are usually pretty dry the next day.

I then put the stones used that day on edge in a plastic shoe box on a piece of rubber drawer liner at the bottom of the box and an 8X3 inch piece between the stones to keep from chipping and store under the sink in an uncovered box.

I cut a mess of the rubber drawer liner as pads with a paper cutter. I like it because it allows a bit of air circulation, good cushion/protection and a non slip surface.
