Thread: Essay on honing

I don't know if anyone seen this essay before. I can't remember where I got it. But the two pages I put in here, are interesting reading. It seems that coticule where used with oil and lathe and the natural combos, where considered finer grit, then coticule glued on a slate.

I've only have natural combos myself, does any of you guys have any experiences of this?

Also I never heard of the use of oil on a coticule before, perhaps I should try it.

The essay mention that the finest hones come from the US. Is that Arkansas hones?
