Essay on honing
I don't know if anyone seen this essay before. I can't remember where I got it. But the two pages I put in here, are interesting reading. It seems that coticule where used with oil and lathe and the natural combos, where considered finer grit, then coticule glued on a slate.
I've only have natural combos myself, does any of you guys have any experiences of this?
Also I never heard of the use of oil on a coticule before, perhaps I should try it.
The essay mention that the finest hones come from the US. Is that Arkansas hones?

The whole pdf amongst many others is in the SRP Library.

I can't comment on the use of oil. Haven't honed on an oil stone in over 30 years. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
