The Apart is BLACK NOT WHITE as the ebay seller's picture looked(reflection?). But it looks appropriate to the box. I couldn't tell which side is smoother, so I picked one and started lapping. Still lapping.

The Durahone is inward curved along the length of the hone and is balsa wood light.

The swaty is a 2 line, I believe and is in great shape with its own box and two signatures and dates(1910 and 1918). I can't tell if the sides are different in grits or not.

Pretty noticeable weight for the Swaty and Apart considering their size.

Thanks for looking(as I type with kung-fu, lapping affected fingers)

Yikes .....my hone expert says lapping a barbers hone takes the working surface off as it is just a fine layer on top as a result of how they were made. I tired to hone one just to see and guess what. He was right, it never got better. My arm is still recovering:<0)
Just what I know and that could be wrong but have yet to hear how someone was successful at it.

Yes wrong...in general its possible to lap barber hones, up to date i got no one which could not be lapped....

There are several DIY Threads around how to lap these correct....there might be some around with a thin layer who knows...

Just think in beeing a company and selling these which sense would it make to produce them out of whatever material and then just put a thin layer to use above it...no most of them are solid produces out of 1. Material or double sided

I can't wait to see how the Apart performs. You seemed pretty excited about it.

Is the Apart the black one top right with the red box?? I have, I think I have the exact same one. Except there was no description from the seller. I bought it on a whim. When people started bidding me up, I just had to have it.

But I know nothing about it. Do you guys?

No. That's the Dura-hone. Looks like it might be for DE blades, at best.

The Apart is the top left above the box marked "Apart" ;p

btw-they were all a bit dry. They all got cleaned and lubed. The less dry to the most dry: Apart; Swaty; Dura-hone

Is there anything written on the red box? Mine is completely bare. Mine was flat... Aren't most DE hones concave??
