    Default Newb Barber hone question

I probably know the answer to this already...but,
when using the barber hones, if I've honed up using tape, I'm probably going to have to use tape with the BH, right?

Or you could use your left hand :<0) No wait if you use your right then you have to stick with the ......Yes your right .tape all the way through.

If you honed it with tape, you don't have to use the tape, but you should. Why? Because if for some reason you aren't happy, it'll creep into your thought process that maybe it was because you didn't.

Once you get to know the rock, Bob's your uncle.

I "palm hone" when using small rocks. Palm flat, fingers outstretched. No way you can cut yourself that way. I love palm honing. If using longer rocks didn't give me better results, I would cut all my rocks down to 4".

Congrats on your new toy!! Post pictures!

    For you, Sir Dave.

I'm feeling uneasy about no tape, but very regretful that I hadn't known this beforehand. I think I may have bevel-on-up no tape had I known this in order to have the hone around at the shave circle. I'm torn...

Lol! Told you! Doubt will kill . But know this too. In time, if you want to freshen up your blade while sitting in your den with lather going on - getting out the tape is a buzz kill lol! If you can tell the difference, I would be shocked! Of course, your face may be more sensitive than mine, and your blades harder! Who knows?? I don't lol!

Thanks for the link. Great looking stones!

    Sir Dave,
    I am ruined.
I've had a mental meltdown thinking about bevel setting on up all my blades again.
I have called eBay and asked them to return my hones.

That's unfortunate. Though not surprising... The stress of bevel setting weighs large on the honers shoulder. One mistake, and everything before and after is for not.

But barbers hones are far from bevel setting, and eBay is unlikely to help so... Slap your own face for me, and then get on with whatever it is you get on with!

I have a 3-line Swatty, have used it with ease and success a few times. Hold it in my left hand, and as the instructions say, 10-12 laps and you're done. Just make sure you keep the blade flat against the stone. You can also place it on a flat surface if you're more comfortable.

Imagine, this old stuff really works!
