Sorry for slow response, I've been traveling, but thank you for the answers and feedback. I still haven't started this adventure. Am waiting until I'll be home when the package arrives so I can get to it before my wife....although touching up a blade will be hard to hide, now that I think of it!

+1 on the 325. Started with the large 220 but much prefer the DMT.

Default Hit the SRD "order button"

Ok -- After a sub par shave today I finally went to SRD, found the recommended stones in stock (Naniwa 12K SS and the DMT 325 to lap it). The razor was at a stage where it needed a touch up. I figured I might as well give it a try myself before sending it out. If I screw up, I can always send it out to be honed.

First hones!! The beginning, I'm sure of another addiction and even more fun. I'll be watching the videos again!!

Thanks for the advice, I'm sure I'll be back for more help.

    Harold,

Great move! It's a natural progression that so many of us go through. It's only a matter of time, IMO. You won't be sorry. The 12K is pretty newbie friendly and easy to use.

To be redundant, the key is pressure and even contact with the edge to the hone. Go slow. May be frowned upon, but, IMO/IME, using a second hand with no pressure is also an option if you are having trouble keeping even contact of the edge to the hone. This won't help you develop better technique in the long run(though, that is up for debate), but it works. Also, use a loupe to look at the edge and also use the TPT and HHT to check progress.

    Redundantly and respectfully,

Simon (I'm excited for you! You won't be sorry)

Great choice on the Nani 12 and the DMT 325. You'll get tons of use out of both of those-I love mine!
