My favourite was domerockite named after where it was found, Dome Rock. Creative naming huh ?

After x ray defractors became widely used the identification of new minerals exploded. There's all kinds of stuff out there waiting to be discovered especially the microscopic stuff.
As to names classically most minerals were named after the person who first described them. After that the location where they are first found is the second most popular scheme. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
