Thanked: 3215Yes the first is a Coticule with a BBW back. Lap the back (BBW) flat you may still be able to use it depending on what they glued it with.
Yes, Thüringen slurry can look white on the stone and grey dried. If they were togeather it may well be a Thüringen. They come in colors from grey to charcoal and grey to green.
Lap it and take some photos, wet and dry with and without slurry, face back and sides. A Thüringen will most probably have saw marks on the sides.
What are you lapping with?

Here are pics of the possible thuringian. Most notable is left over adhesive on the ends.
Def has some saw marks. Lapping with a coarse dmt. Thanks guys for the help I've been on a long hunt for a cheap thuringian cause Eschers are insanely expensive
There is a huge gouge missing in the bbw and the lapping would almost ruin the stone going that deepLast edited by aa1192; 04-27-2014 at 09:11 PM.
Razor rich, but money poor. I should have diversified into Eschers!

Dimensions are 60mm by 126mm or 2 3/8s by 5. Your guess is as good as mine about label or glue but it's on both ends.

Thanked: 3215The hole in the BBW may not matter as long as it does not snag. It looks as though it was use with the hole. The hole looks filled with slurry.
You may want to clean the stone and work on a cookie sheet with a new fresh piece of wet and dry or a diamond plate and save the slurry. Let it dry, collect the powder and fill the hole with powdered slurry dust and drop in crazy glue (CA) to fill the hole, if you have enough dust.
Or just use it as is, I think it will be fine as the hole is parallel to the honing direction.
The sides and end will have saw marks.
You also may not need to lap out the deep scratches. Pick the side that has the shallowest scratches and lap that side only, to save the stone.
One of your photos looks green and the other dark grey. What color is it? Take your photos in sunlight outside.
Nice find, I have found a few in the wild... they are out there.

Thanked: 3215The photos with the glue are the ends? I think I see saw mark under the glue.
The Green photo does look like a Thüringen with slurry, what’s the other side look like?

Yeah there are saw marks under the glue. It's blue grey dry and greenish when wet. Sorry we don't have any sun today it's gloomy out. Perhaps Tom.
That's a great idea with the ca and slurry dust. Btw I put that slurry in there attempting to lap the stone. Should I just fill with ca then a layer of slurry/stone dust then lap once it cures?Last edited by aa1192; 04-27-2014 at 09:45 PM.
