Thanked: 38I love the suehiro 6k, but as most say you could replace it with naniwa 5/8k and go faster.
I would add two more naturals: a yellow belgian and a fine thuringian.
I feel that some steels react better with the belgian and with some others I prefer the finish that I get from the thuringian.
note: modern thuringians are not as fine finishers as most vintage onesLast edited by Sterm; 05-02-2014 at 07:14 AM. Reason: Ortho

Having said that I started with the King 1K and added the Naniwa SS1k and then the Chosera for bevel setting.
Standard progression for me is
- Chosera 1k
- Naniwa SS 5k
- Naniwa SS 8k
- Naniwa SS 12K
and then CrOx and or .25 diamond if the fancy hits me,
although I will generally shave with it first before deciding on if I will use either of these.
The Naniwa SS 3/8 will serve you well especially if you do not care for the Suehiro.
Or throw the 8k in the mix and keep the Suehiro for a bit.
Another option is the Norton 4/8 but there is something to be said for staying with the same system.
Tough choice but at least there are a few solid options.

Thanked: 433The only issue I see is the big jump between 6k and 12k, as others have said maybe slurry on the 12k or maybe a few laps on a barber hone between the 6k and 12k could close the gap in grit size
