    Default Arkansas stone?

I picked this stone up at a garage sale a last week. I do believe it to be an Arkansas stone of some sort. Tried an edge on it and it can produce a serviceable edge, not the greatest but usable. If I had to guess I would put it around 6 to 8K.

All I can say is if it is an Ark, and you got a "6 to 8k" save - that's awesome because it doesn't seem to be a translucent or a black.

Dang!! I forgot about my lust for an Ark!! Enabler lol!!

Congrats - sorry I of no help.

If it is an Arkansas you can measure the density with a graduated cylinder or other calibrated volumetric measure. This will tell you where it sits in the Arkansas hierarchy.

That's a bit more involved than I'm willing to do. Heck I wouldn't know how anyway

I can give you details on how to do the density measurement if you want to PM me. Without that you can only go by color and results. It looks like it might be a "Hard". I have gotten a shaveable edge off my Hard Ark but it need a Black to get a comfortable shave.
