Question Nature Green Jade as barber hone???

Hi, it is almost impossible to find a barber hone for less than 25$, shipping to Spain. I have no stones, and use to use a balsa wood with pastes. I am curious about this stone:

10,000 #Grit 100*20*10 Sharpener Natural Green Stone Whetstone Oilstone Polishin | eBay

It worth 25$? Can I use it as a barber hone for the touch ups?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

    Greetings from Seville!

I don't think it is worth the gamble. First, did you note the size? That is quite small for honing a razor. Second, I doubt that jade will work well for honing, but that is only my speculation.

The idea wasn't honing a SR, but simply make push ups when I feel my SRs need one.

10k grit is too low for push ups?

You can do "push ups" (we call them touch ups) on almost anything. But I don't trust those jade stones without words from experienced people saying they are good for razors.

Depending from the type of jade used, it could work. But it's extremely slow and always overpriced. You can try a 6x2" "Chinese 12k" stone.

100x20x10 is tiny. I've never used one of these but a tiny slow stone is not going to be much fun to use.

I you opt for the Chinese stone try to get a slurry stone for it too, makes it a little more versatile.

Other buget options: A small coticule bout, small Belgian Blue whetstone, MST/Muller grindstone or King 6K. They may not get you a perfect edge but I'd rather use one of them & some pastes on balsa than a tiny peice of jade.

An Arkansas Hone would beat that particular type of stone for price per surface area, availability, and if prepared well can give a very good edge. Agate / Greenstone seems to be about the same material.

However a 12k synthetic is a better choice to learn on, and will be faster.

Maybe think barbers hone if you just want to do touch ups or push ups. Or touch ups while you doing push ups. A 2 sided one will give you more options. Jumping jacks and touch ups maybe :<0)

I have one of those green stones - but in 200x50mm. They are incredibly slow, and I've never used mine to touch up a razor. If you're looking for a touch up stone, you'd be better off with a slab of biggs of owyhee jasper, but those require that you have a diamond hone to get them flat in the first place.
