While you are waiting to acquire a leather strop you can strop on denim (the leg from a pair of old blue jeans works nicely) on a flat surface or glued to a 1"x4"x12" piece of wood. Be sure the denim side of wood is relatively flat.

The Whipped Dog 'Poor Man's Strop Kit' will work for you for a long time while learning proper technique thus saving you ruining a better, more expensive setup.

I had to start shaving with a str8 on the cheap being disabled and unemployed at the time. I have several cheap/money saving ideas that will serve you well if money is tight, just shoot me a PM.

Definitely! I used denim and newspaper to practice stropping, sometimes you have to make due with what you got being a student.
    Sippin' on some slurry.
