Is that a Norway stone ?

Morning everyone !

I have a question today, I've just found this little stone on my flea market, and I'm questioning myself about its nature.

I've heard about Norway stones, really thins ones. Do you think it could be one ?

She seems really efficient anyway. The slurry comes by itself very quickly, and the stone seems at least as abrasive as a belgian coticule.

I'm not familiar with any "Norway" stone.
The most prominent stone to come out of Norway is from the Eidsborg mine.
It was mined for centuries, and is a decent hone for shears and knives.
Here's a link to an article about that stone/quarry. In Norwgian..
The mine is no longer in use, but the area outside of it is still littered with rough cut stones.

I have one other whetstone from Norway that is usable for honing, but that is very dark.
Almost completely black.

Judging from the pictures it looks like Blue Belgian Whetstone(BBW) to me.

No, the BBW's slurry would be violet / red, and this one's pure grey.

I just used the diamond stone on a BBW before lapping this one, so there is maybe a little touch of red on the picture's slurry, but it's definitely not a BBW.

I don't think of it as a french slate (the color would be more like a Dragon Tongue's). Maybe a thin Thuringe ?

The thin stones I was thinking about were Sweden's by the way, but I can't find back the picture I saw that reminded me this one.

I am not really sure if this is a Norway ragstone. The ragstones do have very small black dots, normally only visible when wet (Last picture). Maybe a view of the hone sides could help to identify.

There is indeed black spots, and when the hone is dry they're not easily visible.

This is the finest stone I've ever met. It's only 0,12 inches thick

Wow that's a lot of rocks. If I was there I would be picking up rocks trying to get one that seems very heavy for it's weight.
Or one that shines more then the other in the sunlight. The shine of the stone in my picture made it catch my eye.

Lol that typo gave me a smile this morning

It has just reminded me of a time when I worked in a caravan factory for a summer. There was a (not so bright) lad who was always bragging about how strong he was. No one really paid him much attention because he wasn't really known for his brain cell count.

One day though someone asked him to prove it by standing in a bin and lifting himself up.......he was at it an hour and a half before giving up !!!!

To be in with Thaeris it is possible, from the colouring and the inclusions this might fit, though the inclusions in the Lune stone are mostly less then here...

@thaeris: does it have a reflecting metallic like surface ?
