Thanked: 4826There is some good stuff in this website too. I think part 4 focuses a lot on the cuticle.

Coticules are kind of a Pandora's Box. They have a determined following, but each stone can vary so much that getting the great finisher can.....well.....take a lot of time, $'s, and, without buying from a trusted source...such as an SRP member that can tell you exactly what the stone can do....be very frustrating.
Coticules were my first great endeavor when I started. I finally found a couple of decent finishers but find that I use an Escher, or a Gokumyo 20k, or for me a Jnat as my finisher most of the time. I still have the coti's, but they seldom see daylight.
If you want a "for sure" finisher. The Escher is the only natural stone that you can depend on to be "what it should be", out of the box.
For a synthetic, IMHO, the Gokumyo 20k is superb!!

Coticule.be is another resource.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

I have the suehiro and absolutely love it..for its ease of use and consistent results..any tricks for it..?? My shaves are just a bit harsher than I like off of it it lacks that true jnat feel.. Anything I can try to refine it a lil bit

I love my coticule .. unless I really need some serious bevel setting that seems to be my only stone of choice anymore .. don't ask me how to use one though .. I looked at article after article , watched video after video on youtube and coticule sites , and ended up with a way of use that incorporates alittle of everything !! but hey now I know where I like to be with my razors and not one way has worked for all of them so I play play play till I find my sweet spot .. lots of fun in those natural stones !!

You might pay particular attention to the phrase "garnet content" as you research the coticule of your dreams. I have an 8x3 inch coticule with no apparent garnet content and it is useless. I sent this stone to two different honemeisters and both agreed it is fairly well useless. Check the return policy before you close the deal.
