Chosera 1k is smooooooooth.......
I just replaced my Norton 1k with a Chosera 1k and what a difference. My Norton will be used mostly for knives now. I was surprised at how much smoother the Chosera felt than the Norton 1k. The Norton 1k seems more thirsty as well and kind of gritty compared to the Chosera. Dang it, now I want some other Chosera rocks, stop the madness!!!

Thanked: 8For those who have both, how does the Chosera 1k compare to the Naniwa 1k?
I find the Naniwa 1k quite smooth, especially compared to the Norton, but also quite a bit softer—and gouge prone.

Thanked: 3215The Chosera 1k is a nice stone that has the best combination of speed and smoothness. It feels smoother than the Norton and King, but the Super Stone 1K is softer than the Chosera, too much so as it feel muddy and easy to mar. I do like the Norton 1k for knives where it is much easier to mar a stone.
The Chosera is definitely the best of the bunch, well worth the price. But they all do the same thing and all will set a bevel well. It is really more of a feel thing, not performance.
As far as the rest of the progression, it is a matter of feel and preference also. I typically use the Chosera 1k to set a bevel then go to the Norton 4 and 8k, finish on a 12K Super Stone, then film or Natural Ark, Escher, Thüringen, or Vosigine.
I prefer the feel and cutting speed of the Norton 4 & 8K, once the bevel is set you will not spend a lot of time on the middle stones, it’s just polishing.
Try the stones before you buy, if possible. This August, at our So. Cal meet I will have all my stones there for guys to try. It really is just a matter of personal preference, they all are capable of achieving the same results.

I've never used the others but have been using the Norton for some time now. At the 1K level all I care about is performance and speed and the Norton has never disappointed. it's no finisher and if it seems rougher, at that level it doesn't matter to me.

Thanked: 522I've tried Norton, Shapton GS, Naniwa, King and Chosera 1Ks and they all get the job done quite well. Preferemce is up to the individual.

That big green hone is definitely on my wish list. I have the Norton 1k, but will set a bevel on the Chosera every time I can when any friend at a meetup has one to use!

I have gone straight to coticule on water after bevel setting on the chosera 1K. Nothing else required for a good shaving edge.
This stone definitely puts you in the ball park.
