A lot of people will give a freshly lapped BH a soak with some kind of petroleoum product. I smear some warm vaseline on mine and wrap it in a paper towel for a week myself. From what I can tell it "rehydrates" some of the binding matrix. If you look up Modines BH lapping write up on R+S he mentions it there.
