I spent literally 5 minutes in total cleaning it all up
I didn’t try pull it apart as I didn’t want to bugger anything up trying to get it apart forcing it,
first a light wipe with a damp cloth to clean it up
then lapped the hone with 320 W&D for about minute if that until pencil grid lies were gone, I think it may have only been dirt as most was gone in about 20 strokes nearly on it,
then lapped about a minute with 2k W&D
gave the hone & strop leather I light wipe with some glycerine to clean it up & similar with the outside of the box only
the leather is very thin & subtle with a nice feel to it.
now I’m torn between my Pike Swaty & this to be my travel hone LOL
    very happy with this find

Good catch! They are fine hones and a very few laps on them dry is enough to refresh a blade.

They dismantle easily for the most part, only finger pressure to pull them apart from the ends, one end at a time. there is one dismantled in the library hone section. I clean the leather front & back with saddle soap & soft toothbrush under warm running water,,, then allow to dry for 5 to 7 days,,, then slowly work Bick 4 conditioner into the leather. I only had 1 over the past 4 years that the leather had "rotted" before I received it.

    Thanks John,
didn't want to force it trying to work it out
the leather is in excellent condition & about as thin as my Roo strop with only a minor scrape on it
it even has a thin piece of card between the leather & hone, not sure if this is original but looks it & its in great clean condition also,
like the hone was only ever used dry

Yes, the cardboard backing is original,,, the other side of the stone that you cannot see , has the Pike embossed logo.
