1000 Naniwa
I am slowly getting a set of hones and wanted to make sure I am heading down a road of success.
I bought 1 DMT 325 Dia-sharp (Lapping)
1000 Naniwa stone for bevel setting.
I ordered both from SRD earlier today.
I am getting the 5000 8000 and 12000 next month.

Thanked: 522You seem to have it pretty well covered. If you are like most of us, you will add to that array before too long. Good luck.

Thanked: 13249Just a suggestion here and it is very minor as either will work just fine
As a newer honer most of your issues will be at the lower end of the spectrum and getting a positive bevel set .. With that in mind I would recommend the 3k over the 5k as it will give you just a touch more at the lower side.. The jump from 3k to 8k is what Naniwa does anyway so that isn't an issue at all..
Again either one will work, I just feel the 3k might work better for you in the early stages of honing

Thanked: 4942On a daily basis, I use the Naniwa Chosera 1K followed by the 5K, 8K and 12K. This set up is extremely effective, reliable and consistent. This is also the set up I use to train people to hone when they come by or when I meet them at the Get Togethers these days. The 3K will work in lieu of the 5K, but in my opinion, the results are not any different. As was stated, you can't go wrong with either and the 3/8K combo is very good.
Have fun.Last edited by Lynn; 09-26-2014 at 01:24 PM.
