Carborundum ID please
Picked up this Carborundum hone at a flea market today. Unfortunately the top of the box was missing. I'm wondering if any of the experts can ID it and give me an idea of the grit rating. I realize it will probably be impossible.....but..... It is 8" X 2" X 1"

It's an Carborundum IC8,,,,,,,
"Crystolon/India combination benchstones have fast-sharpening, medium
grit silicon carbide (Crystolon) and fine aluminum oxide (India) abrasive
surfaces for keen, long-lasting edges. Crystolon side is dark gray in color,
India side is orange." from Carborundum catalog 2008
medium/fine,,,,,, 240ish & 600ish,,,,
Not a razor hone, but a nice hone, never the less, for other edged tools,,,,
*****Grit data changed to similar Norton Specs.**************Last edited by Hirlau; 10-12-2014 at 01:32 AM. Reason: changed grit data

Understand that that hone is vintage & the colors are not as vibrant as you might expect,,,,,
The more modern Carborundum crystolon / Indias look a lot sharper,,,,

45 minutes, BAM! answer appears. Thank you so much.
Would the India side be appropriate for breadknifing or still to coarse for that?
Just bought the Norton 220/1000 4K/8K hone package. But don't want to mess them up breadknifing. Bought this one thinking it might be utilized for that.

Short answer,,, you could,,,
But,,,,,,,,
Is breadknifing the best option for your razor? Many consider breadknifing the last option & many consider it NO option at all.
If your razor has edge problems, then post a pic of it & guys will give you other, better, options to fix it.
