Thanked: 24I agree, I usually use the slate side of my coticule slurry stone, it might ad something to it, but that something is way finer and doesn't create any adverse effects.
the brown cleaning stone comming along with the Chosera is a piece of 600 grit hone (95% sure of this) so if you go with a dilution of slurry I would Not recemment its use

I don't soak it before use at all.
Just a pool of water that sits on top for a minute or two before I start honing.
I've had my 10K crack considerably and hairlines are starting to show on a 5K I have as well.
No more soaking of Chosera's for me.
They work just fine without it, so why risk it is my take on itBjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

I received my stone today. The instructions say to soak the coarser stones for 10 mins before use (jokers).
It took quite a bit of lapping with the shapton lapper to get it flat. For some reason I was shocked to see green slurry come off it :/
It fits nicely into/onto the Shapton holder. I'll try it out this weekend , on one of my brothers duff razors and try to get a feel for it

Just from my own experience with the newer stones. They have changed the binder ingredients over the last couple years. The people using older stones will give advice thta works well for them.
The new stones:
Do not soak more than the few minutes, they may get hairline cracks, spray or dribble water onto them.
Do not use hot water, it affects the binder and your stone will discolor.
You have a great tools and it will serve you well!

Thanked: 3215I have an older Chosera, no base. I hone on a wooden bridge on a 3X8 in piece of rubber drawer liner.
I do not soak, I put in a plastic shoe box that I use as a pond and fill with water, when full I remove, maybe a 30 seconds.
I use no slurry and refresh with a 600 DMT a few light laps under water in the water pond/shoebox between razors or to begin a session. I flood with water with a plastic squirt bottle to keep the stone wet at all times during use.
When done I air dry on the end edge leaning on the inside of the sink, let gravity do the work and air get to all sides. Leave overnight usually dry the next day, if not leave another day. I will set on chopsticks to dry, if my bride needs the sink.
I have never used a Shapton 1K so cannot compare, heard they are faster, but I bought the Chosera for smoothness not speed, have a Norton, King, Super Stone and Diamond Plates if I want quick.
It is a smooth stone that is great for bevel setting for razors, too soft for knives for me. Really they all do the same thing, it is more about the feel of the razor on the stone.
You have made a good choice and will be happy with this stone, lifetime purchase.
As Geezer said, “No-one, ever sells a Chosera 1K”. Not much else to say...
