    Question American Slate

Has anyone tried domestic American slate to use as a hone? I have come across a supply that was window sills in a old school building. I I haven't cut it up yet but I have a smaller piece I just finished flat & I will say it hones pretty well on straights & pocket knives as well.
    Any thought's??

Pics help for sure, no telling where construction slates were sourced back then.

today when I walked up some stairs made out of natural stone I caught myself also wondering if these steps could posebly contain a decent hone

maybe even this guy here might banging his head against some nice raw material just waiting to be tested
