Thanked: 4That site doesn't have a D8C but DMT D8C 8-Inch Dia-Sharp Continuous Diamond Coarse New | eBay good old eBay shows this one which should come in at just shy of £60 Inc. Delivery and import charges (approx $90 USD).
Really glad I came here because £60 for one of those plates seems like a steal.

Fact 1 Glen uses Nortons as his baseline to compare all others. You dont use junk as your baseline. All trucks compare themselves to F150.
Fact 2 Follow the directions and dont breadknife on the flat surface use the side, Best use an upright 10-20 degree angle to remove frowns and chips.
Fact 3 I bought and used this product in the last month . This is the documentation.http://straightrazorpalace.com/show-...nting-7-a.html
I cant tell you what to do but I can show you what it does and the who who uses it as a baseline. Total time 20 -30 minutes but more important it did it well. Excellent bevel set for my other straights . I could care less how it sounds audibly . I care about how it preforms on the steel. The extra money still in my pocket is a bonus.
After bevel is set good resource for maximizing your BBW is here http://www.coticule.be/CSA.html
This should help you get the most from your current hone configuration.
I use the same stones with good reproducible results.Last edited by ultrasoundguy2003; 12-20-2014 at 12:24 AM.
Your only as good as your last hone job.

Thanked: 169You know, I've been using a shapton 500 for bevels the last few weeks and it is an incredible stone. It is fast, leaves a scratch pattern no worse than some soft 1k japanese waterstones I have had and it refuses to load. It's not even expensive.

Thanked: 3795Yeah it's a lot cheaper to experiment with bevel setters than finishers!

Get you a King 1k or a Chosera1K for a bevel setter. Also get you something like the Naniwa 1k,3k, 5k & a 10k. You can use your bow combo for a finisher.
Norton are good stones but like Utopian said, you constantly have to keep them wet, but that's just my opinion but they do work. They are a very porous stone. You can go here & watch gssixguns youtube video's on honing:

Here is his website:

I have Norton stones, Chosera 1k, King 1k , Naniwa stones & Shapton stones. Shapton are expensive stones which is why I recommend King/Naniwa or Chosera/Naniwa stones. You need a lapping plate also. Shapton makes a good one but it is expensive but DMT makes a couple of good ones. I go here for my sharpening needs:
Sharpening Supplies - Sharpen Your Knives and Tools With The Right Supplies
One DMT lapping plate is here:
DMT Dia-Flat 95 Lapping Plate
And another is here:
DMT Dia-Flat Lapping Plate
I have the DMT Dia-Flat 95 & I also have the Shapton lapping plate. they both work great & I love the Shapton better but the DMT is less expensive.

Thanked: 55Got d8c and naniwa pro 1000 and 3000 on the way. Then bbw and coticule have already. Also got slate combo from aj on the way. Maybe harder but am going to try to learn with naturals at the top end. Cheers for all helpful replies. Merry Christmas all.
