Default Most all pieces in place...

Very excited to have all of these stones in one place. The wait was much longer and harder than anticipated.
Looking forward to testing them out with an old blade or two that I came across - perfect for learning on.

    DMT 325
    Chosera 1k
    SS 3k
    Gouken Hayabusa 4k
    Gouken Fuji 8k
    SS 12k

    HARRYWALLY and doorsch like this.

I can't help but chip in my two cents. Find some sound vintage blades with no geometry issues to start with. Most people have enough to learn just getting the honing process down with out throwing a bunch of crap blades in there. It is unlikely that you will destroy a blade learning to hone with it. There are plenty hat come up from $30-50 and a lot of $50-70 is you want to start with one that is shave ready.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

We have similar tastes in synthetic stones, I currently have the new Naniwa Chosera Professional P310 (1k),Professional P330 (3k). The Hayabusa 4k and the Fugi 8k are inbound from Stuart, should be here next week.
The finisher I got to round this set out is the Suehiro Gokumyo 20k.
I really like the Professionals, a great way too set bevels, the two Goukens are replacing the Norton 4k and 8k stones that I currently use. I can't wait to see what these two new stones bring to the table.
The Gok20 is simply icing on the cake.
ResDogs advise is spot on, when I first started honing I got the same advise and I followed it. Got a few $50 dollar razors from the classifieds that were straight spinned and without issues this made learning ALLOT easier. Let me know how it goes.

The 20k sure gets some strong reviews, and I hope to buy one someday.
I want to make sure I can get a good edge off my 12k first... then I'll splurge and see how it does.

Lots of folks here have that 12k you've got and I believe if you take the time to really learn that stone you may be very happy with the edges from it, especially if your face gets along with synthetic edges.
