Heya! Merry Christmas!
I'd like to ask a question to flesh out how best the guys here can help.
Looking at the above quote, are you asking what stone you should be looking at to refresh an edge back to optimal sharpness after it has lost some of its sharpness? Or, has the razor suffered damage of some kind that needs more attention. If so, what are your observations? Under magnification?
Cheers,
Simon
ps-have a Naniwa 12k SS. My first stone for refreshing the edge of my razors. It lends itself to those on the beginner level of honing and is reverently appreciated by those who have honed thousands upon thousands of razors. Personally, I'd avoid getting it off ebay and look at our Vendors. Particularly, the owner of this site. Price is great. A stand by your customer man. Heck look at this support site.

I did initially look on the classifieds here at this site. There were a few stones, but i didnt see grit, so i didnt know where to classify them. Also they were a little more price'r than the naniwa.
I already bought the naniwa after the first few responses. So i wont be buying another one (at least for awhile).

Thanked: 7I just received that Naniwa stone. I resharpened my razor from 1K to 6K and to the new 12K stone. I shaved with it right after. Makes a whole world difference that 12K stone.
I now wish all my stones were Naniwa. My king stones are more narrow than the blade, so i have to X stroke it. I could of sworn i saw scratches be removed during the 12K stone step. I thought the 6K was good before, now i know better.
I am quite happy that i successfully sharpened my razor better than its currents state and that i can I can resharpen it at any time.

Very glad that it worked for you right out of the box...
And the more you use it, the better it gets.
Yesterdays shave was with a Ralf Aust 7/8 that I recently refreshed with the Nani 12K.
It was so wonderful that I had to look at my notes to see what I had done to it, a simple 12K refresh and strop.
Remember that if you tape to hone you need to tape to refresh...

Thanked: 3215Good choice on the Naniwa, though the Shapton is also a very good stone also. The difference is the feel and perhaps the uniformity of the stria. But the 12k Super Stone is a no brainer, workhorse finisher, that can easily re-set a bevel in about 100 laps.
For finishing or touch ups, do 10 weight of the blade X laps and strop on linen and leather 50 – 100 laps.
If you want to improve you edges just a bit more, a Chrome Oxide paddle strop will give you a little more comfort/smoothness and keep you edges keen a long time.
For novices a paddle strop is a much better/safer tool especially pasted, just use lite pressure.
