I want to get that real real smooth shave that you get with cro ox pastes
Is there a progression you can use with these pastes?

First you need a quality grade of chromium oxide such as that sold by a reputable razor vendor. Next you need a quality substrate such as leather, balsa, newspaper, or one of the several non-leather types of strops that are the second component of a dual strop. Finally you need to apply it thinly.

For use, you really don't need to overdo it. Start with 10 or 15 laps at a time, wipe off the blade, then strop normally and shave. Keep repeating that till you are satisfied, or bored!

you can get quality shaves with no CrO used, provided the razor was honed correctly

Yes, after the CroOx just wipe the blade off and then strop normally--canvas then leather.
