Default Weirdness with Naniwa Pro 1K

So I have a Naniwa Pro 1K P-310. I had it stored in my sharpening stone holder (the standard type with rubber holders and two screw nuts on the one end) and when I removed it to soak I noticed it had warped. When I put it on the counter top it would rock corner to corner. This was not a case of needing lapping. Soaked it and used it anyway. I wondered if it was the pressure from the holder so I left it to dry flat on the counter. Next time I went to use it it was flat again. I didn't think I had the screw nuts on the holder really cranked down, but who knows. Has anyone else had this happen?

Maybe it's one of derm self lapping hones, put er on a flat surface and leave it over night and in the morning it's flat and ready to go.

I did read up on here on soaking times. I decided not to soak for long periods. Basically 5 minutes while I'm getting organized and taping the blade......

see this link. It says not to soak these stones. I don't do much honing but all I do is spray the surface with water or splash a bit on from a bottle.
    BobH and Chevhead like this.
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

I have both the P310 and the P330, I have never soaked them. As far as I'm concerned they are spray and go stones. I also never store any hone under pressure.

Hard to imagine them warping but definitely no need to soak these stones in my experience. Just splash/spray until water pools on it.

I would say wet it again and allow to dry thoroughly with no pressure from the stone holder. Flatten again and take pressure off when not in use.

    I rest my case.
