Thanked: 16Like to send a couple razors to be honed
Anyone have a favorite person to use here on forum? What is a fair price to pay and I am in the USA so would prefer to ship somewhere here. I have recently aquired them and though they seem sharp and in great condition I want to learn to hone myself and like to start with something already sharp. Shave until dull and try to replicate the feel and sharpness. If you had an escher coticule and charnley forest what order would you use them? And why do many brands glue paper to a stone that will get wet and deteriorate it. Do you use the opposite side and be careful? I want to use my nicer hones but afraid to ruin the "presentation" Aspect

You're welcome, Mike. This is a great place. I can say that I have had a fine hone job by Mr. Lynn Abrams, the site's founder and owner of straighrazordesigns.com (SRD). You will be eagerly awaiting the mail.

Thanked: 3795If the "presentation aspect" includes a label for an Escher, then by all means do whatever is necessary to preserve that label. All Eschers are thuringians but not all thuringians are Eschers, in the same manner that all Levis are jeans but not all jeans are Levis. That label identifying an Escher is a confirmation that a company confirmed the quality of the thuringians passing through their company. As such, they command a much higher premium price when they are sold. Some thuringians might be as good as, or even better than, an Escher, but the label they are not Eschers.

Thanked: 246Right, sometimes you can remove the label to keep it safe for posterity, or some guys like to lacquer over it with clear. Having an Escher, coticule and Charnley, I wouldn't use them in order. They are all finishing stones in their own right. I would try all three and see what you like best.
