    Default Purple Slate Hones

I was wondering if only yellow lake type purple slates have green spots or if there are others. There is a stone I was looking at that is definitely a hone, which is quite purple with a light green spot. I read this is common in hone slates.

Would it be possible for the purple french hones to have these spots? Or only something like a yellow lake?

Any comments or input would be appreciated.

I could always buy the hone in question and compare to my modern purple yellow lake, but as the stone is a bit pricey for the condition I thought I would post first. Also results from said test would not prove much...

Green spots are typically found sometimes on the so-called "Brown Eschers" or purple Vosgienne stones. I don't have my purple stones at hand at the moment, so I cannot post a picture of my own stones. But here is a picture that Modine posted in a thread a while ago:

Those spots on both stones are pretty much the same shade as what i'm looking at. Very helpfull!

I'm tempted to pull the trigger. The stone is pretty beat up with a name carved in the side. Which leads me to believe it was probably a keeper.

I'll see if I can post a picture of the stone in question.

A photo and the size would help.

Do you have access to the stone or is it an online purchase?

Online purchase. I would love to test it in person, I might have to gamble.

My only concern is the shape, but it could have been caused by lapping.(rounded corners)

    It is about 5x2 inches.

I could actually drive and see it if vendor agreed, they are fairly close.

    That sounds awesome Rusen!

Have you seen those french paddle hones SliceofLife collects? They look almost like a coticule but aren't. It could be one of these? Would make sense to me as both are French.
