Naniwa Specialty 12k
Has anybody tried the new super stones?I was going to get one last year and it just didn't happen. This year I have tax funds coming, but they've changed it!I'm thinking of adding the 12k to my Norton set that I've been using for four years with a CroOx paddle.
P.S.Bought all my gear from SRD,figured I'd buy from Lynn again.Last edited by Zemke; 01-25-2015 at 02:13 AM.

Thanked: 31I'm not noticing any difference in feedback. From what I've read the only difference is in the manufacturing protocol. Let others give their opinions and see if they feel/notice any difference in sharpening. Sometimes manufacturers will change names for marketing purposes.

If you're looking at differences between the Super Stones, Chosera, and Specialty Stones here's a nice blurb that reviews the 3 & 5k versions. Link
I would guess things will be very similar between Naniwa stones in the 12k range.
My takeaway was this:
"The SPs are good stones, great stones actually. They seem to be more consistent, and faster than the Choseras. I love the ‘feel’ of the blade on these stones, and they’re smaller, lighter, and easier to deal with. But – I don’t know if that translates to a performance boost worth dumping a working set of Chosera or Super Stones for. "

This is what had hoped, that it was just tighter control in the making and different packaging.I like the idea of the stone not perma bonded to a base. The boxes for my Norton stones now have Gorilla tape hinges so that separate stone holder would be nice to have!

I know Lyn still recomends them highly and had mentioned putting a couple thousand razors over them already

I have now the 1-3-5-8-and 12K naniwa stones and following the video that Lynn has by the time I get through I have a good edge. I also listen to him and got the 20K Suehiro stone and it really put the finishing edge on my blades. I had a Norton 4/8K and for me I really didn't like it. I hope to get a chance to use some of the other stones that I read about here on the place so I can compare them.
