I have used a number of these stones (combo King 1k/6k) and never had an issue with them. True, the 1k side is more like 1.5k or even 2k and the 6k side is more like 5k, but very nice hones to work with, although the 1k side requires rather frequent lapping.

I never soaked mine much - just submerged them for 5 - 10 mins, then used a water spray on them when necessary. Never seen one crack or split, but have experienced cracking with the Chosera 10k - the company replaced the first one, but now the second one has craze-like marks all over the surface). Chefs that have soaked/dried the Chosera 10k have had it split, crack and fall apart.

    Regards,
    Neil

Back on March 21 of this year I took a piece of a 4k Clay stone and submerged it in RO water. No bleach. I kept it on my work bench with a loose cover. On occasion, I would top off the water so the piece was always under water.

It did not melt. Not sure what happened to mine a long time ago but that water did have a bit of bleach in it.
The water did discolor some but after a bit did not get any worse.

    Geezer and cudarunner like this.

Thank you for doing the 'experiment' or 'testing'

So far you've proved that a more 'modern' clay hone will not deteriorate when it's submerged for months in 'Plain Water' could you once again experiment using a plain bleach solution of a Tablespoon per Gallon One that would be sealed with a cover and just left to sit?

As I've posted I've kept mine in the very mild chlorine solution for many a month. With that said, a second 'Opinion' based on an actual 'controlled test' would help make this matter more 'Scientific'

My thanks for taking the time for the initial experiment, good job!

Mine may have been older style. If I soaked them King and Ice Bear and then let them dry sitting on one side I would get a white stuff showing on the down side. I also had that happen with my Chosera 1K.
So I don't give them long soaks any more.
