I had both, I no longer have either. I get about the same result with most of the true finishers I've had, and didn't find the gok edges to be any finer than most of the good naturals that I have, though you have the insurance with it that the particles are harder than anything in your razor bar none, and that it's closely graded. Perhaps it's easier to use, I don't know, all stones are easy to use once you get used to them.

The zulu I had was a reasonably nice stone, not quite as fine as the gok I guess in absolute terms, but certainly capable of making a shaving edge. If you like natural stones and you don't have any wacky goofy knife steel razors in your arsenal, go for the zulu. If you want consistency of synthetic stones, get the gok. Especially if you have any custom razors made of nutty steel like S-30V or any of that stuff - even that might be more appropriately sharpened by diamonds only, and then maybe softened on something afterwards, the vanadium carbides in it won't be cut effectively by aluminum oxide family abrasives that are in most synthetic stones.

I have both as well in addition to almost every kind of Natural.

I use the Suehiro 20K virtually every day on virtually every make of razor out there and find it to be the most consistent and reliable finisher out there. I come off the Naniwa 12K to the 20K and done.

    Have fun.

Hmm, GK20 will be my finisher in the future, Thanks Gent's.

Hirlau, the proper name of the VW Bug is: Der Flaugan Basher. I have left 50,000 dollar blazers stuck in the mud trying to follow a Bug Elk hunting.

OK, let's assume that you got your elk. How the heck are you going to haul it out in/on a bug?

And why are you wearing a blazer to hunt? Everybody knows, a camo, 3 piece, will keep you warm and is “proper” hunting attire for the well-dressed hunting gentleman. Ascot optional.

Probably the brass buttons, giving you away.

Not a big deal when boned out, that 67 Bug hauled out no less than 4 Elk, most of the Elk were tied on kinda haphazard, the meat cooled out well.
Don'tcha know that us old Oregon guys can drive in mud/snow conditions that stop others cold.

I took Lynn's advise and got a mani 12k and SG20. Works great and they produce a very consistent sharp edge. I also found they are aggressive so you don't need a lot of laps to get great results. The SG20 is exceptional in refreshing a blade. 5-7 laps and 15-20 strops on smooth leather and your good to go for months. There not cheap but they will last forever.

I do prefer the G20. Part of that may simply be that I have yet to really learn the best way to use the Zulu Gray... how much slurry? No slurry at all? How many laps? Etc...

The G20 is easy peasy Japaneasy. Literally. 20 or so laps, no slurry, done. Smooth as silk edge.
