    Default Coticule question

I found a coticule on an action site. In the desctiption they said that there was a small crack in the stone that had been filled out with cyanoacrylate (super glue). They said that it wouldn't affect the honing, but what do you guys think? Anyone have any experience with cyanoacrylate?

If the crack has been filled up completely and the stone is lapped flat it should not pose a problem, as cyanoacrylate is significantly softer than the coticule surface.

Maybe I am funny but I wouldn't want to finish my razors on a glued together stone.

I have done this with stones from the wild but I would not pay a premium price for a repaired one on the internet. No telling how it was done and filled. I know what I have done on mine.

Cracks needn't be a bad thing. Cracks in coticules used to be filled with bees' wax. No need to though as your edge will never be trapped in it if you lap the hone well. Unless of course the crack is half an inch wide.

Maurice at Ardennes suggests using CA glue to fix broken coticules, so this stone should be fine. I've used glued hones in the past, and I've had no issues.

The CA doesn't interfere with the edge and the stone doesn't chip at the glued spot if the gluing is done right.

Sometimes cracks are ongoing things and they can progress over time.
