Looks familiar!

Cheapest stone in the bunch does the best work (figuring that you can get a prime piece of dan's black or trans in 8x2 and a half inch thick for about $70).

Agree with the above, the pictures show what comes back to the camera in light, and sometimes they don't tell the same story as the shave.

Other stones can get pretty darn close, but my black translucent Ark is still pretty near top of the heap in my collection of 30+ natural stones. Totally agree with Rusen that the look of the edge often means nothing in terms of shave comfort though. I've had some awesome looking edges that were terribly harsh and some sawtooth looking edges that shaved like a dream (under 150x).

Everybody seems to like the black translucent Arkansas stones, I just received a 6*2 one, I started to flatten it out and it's hard as the light translucent I hope it performance is the same because I paid only 30$ for it. I very excited to try it and see the results.

As for the toothy edge, proper stropping can reduce it harshness.
