Thanked: 2Between 4k and Yagi 14-15k ?
I would like to use a Japanese Natural stone between my 4k Suzuki (hard almost as a Shapton, but much quicker) and my Yaginoshima Asagi (aprox. 14-15K). I was thinking at Tsushima Nagura - but I am a little bit afraid of not being hard enough? I am wrong? Are there other Japanese stones options for 6-9k range ?
Thank you

Thanked: 32A suita would be a good option in that range.

Thanked: 2591Grab a Mejiro or Tenjo nagura, and follow with tomonagura.

Thanked: 459Tsushima is probably a good lateral move to use. I think you could go directly from tsushima to yaginoshima if you clear off the tsushima and then start with tomonagura slurry on the yaginoshima and dilute. Stephan's idea of just running a nagura progression is also a good one, but good nagura aren't as easy to find as they used to be and they are getting expensive.
I like the option of a good suita, but sometimes good suita can be hard to get because things (cracks, etc) that are acceptable i knives and tools aren't great for razors. Good suita are also expensive.

Thanked: 2I am in Japan right now - people do talk about grits on natural stones. Anyway - I was asking for 8-9k gri stone and none of the Mikawa is anywhere close to that. More so their particles do not break. And that is a fact. I might be new here, but I am. A geologist and I am sharpening for some 25 years.

rmihai,
I often use my Tsushima Black nagura for touch ups (prior to the tomonagura), and have found (for me on my Shoubudani Aasgi) that it gives excellent results.
I also sometimes use an Okudo Suita nagura before the tomonagura, and this has also worked well for me.
Experimentation is a fun part of honing, particularly WRT Japanese natural stones and the various nagura
Have fun
Best regards
Russ
