    Default Is this a Thuringian?

Just scored this old stone which appears to be a finisher--just not sure if it's a Thuri? There is a small piece of what appears to be an original label on top of the wooden box in one of the seller's photos.

Took a shot in the dark with this one. What say you, honemeisters and aficionados, did I do ok?

Hard to say from the photos, the ones in the 4th photo of the listing look more like a Thüringen that the listed one.

Judging from the chip, look more like Carbide stone, but more like it could be a Tam o Shanter, hard to say from the photos.

I have seen a lot of Carbide stones in boxes like that, for tools they are great, fast cutting stones.

Too dirty to tell, my guess is carborundum.

Thanks, gents. Will assume carborundum and hopefully it's a fine enough grit to be of some use for my razors.

That would be my guess as well.

Do you think the larger size (7"x2") would indicate that it's a razor hone? I read somewhere that Carborundum put out a professional razor hone in about that size.

Maybe try it on a kitchen knife first.

That's a good idea, Moo. And I have a few that desperately need sharpening!

Very sure that's not a Thuri. Looks like that hone has a lower grit than a Thuri.
