Lapping with a 220 grit dmt
Due to moving confusion all I currently have to lap my waterstones is a 220 grit diamond hone. Is this too course to use on my hones? I have a 1,3,8, and 12 k that are all naniwa superstones.
Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search and didn't find anything!

Thanked: 11I don't have any naniwas. But what I do, if I feel that the surface is too rough is that I'll lap the stones flat with the diamond. and then I'll rub the stones together to smooth them out.

That's a good idea, I had not thought of that. Thanks!

Thanked: 6Rubbing two stones by themselves will change their feedback. I like feedback directly from diamond plate (Atoma #400). Naniwa SS are soft stones and scratches after DMT will not change results dramatically. So I suggest try both ways and choose better way (result + feeling during honing).

Thanked: 4I lap my Naniwa superstones with a DMT 320. A 220 shouldn't be too different.

I would be careful rubbing 2 different grits together as you could embed grit in the other stone. I would only do this on 2 stones of the same kind
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
