Thanked: 3795Did you also get yours relatively recently?
This would suggest that the manufacturer simply has changed this component. Please do not feel shortchanged. I suspect that bevel setting could be accomplished with this 400 grit rubbing stone even better than with the 3k or 1k. Alternatively, if this catches on, someone could start selling rubbing stones cut from any number of low grit hones.

Thanked: 12I've had mine only a couple months and only tried the 400 a couple times. I flattened the 20K with a DMT. Being new to SR shaving and honing I wasnt even sure what I was suppose to do with the stone marked Dual cleaner. I have used slurry left behind by the 20k after lapping with the DMT.
Utopian, I am hanging on the edge of my computer chair waiting patiently for your DL to finish.
I assume you will post a link when your all done?If it's worth doing, it's worth over doing!

Part 2, the finish, is loading now and is quite short, so it should be posted by Tuesday or so.

Thanks of both Frankenstein and Utopian for this most interesting thread.
My SG 20K came in JAN 2015 with the 1000/3000 cleaning stone - so they where shipping that way in early 2015.
Utopian's YouTube clarified my very vague tape/no tape question - you will be taping often - (thanks)
Looking forward to the next installment (the finish)Support Movember!

Thanked: 3795Actually, after watching through the whole thing myself, it probably should be "Yup, the bevel is almost done." Funny how a pessimist repeatedly can be so optimistic about the bevel being almost done.
General comment of note for anyone reading this thread:
I really tried to stick with Frankenstein's recommendation of using the 3k for slurry, but there is a good reason that we use 1k (rather than 3k) hones, for bevel setting. For one stone honing, the cutting comes from the slurry so it is no surprise that honing with 3k slurry took nearly half an hour.
