    Those were designed for a time when blades were carbon steel, hefty and had no coatings on them. Modern blades depend on their coatings to perform otherwise are crudely made flimsy pieces. The most famous DE blade sharpeners were the Lillicraps glass hone.

    The concave side is for DE blades and the flat side is for straights.
