    Default My first coticule.

Traded with a Brazilian fella, a #14 Filarmonica by this stone. Now I have to learn to use it.

Congratulations, both on the razor and the hone. They're all you will ever need. Everything you need to know about honing razors with a Coticule only can be found here: http://coticule.be/straight-razor-honing.html

Beat me to it again RobinK! Your just too quick for this old fart.....he! he!

Matheus, Yes, very good info/videos on honing with a Coticule at the Coticule.be site. I started out using the Dilucot Method but now primarily use the Ellipticot Method. Make sure the stone is flat/lapped before you start. Something to keep in mind about Coticules; because they are natural nearly every one is different and has its own characteristics, once you learn the particular one you have you'll be amazed what you can accomplish with it. They tend to leave a particularly smooth edge on Sheffield razors but will leave a nice smooth shaving edge on about anything you use on it.

Good luck, have fun and enjoy the journey!

That is a nice looking set you have there! As mentioned above, all things with razors seem to multiply so be on the lookout

That was a very good trade I would say. 14ths Fili's exist like sand on the shore, old handcut cotis like this are rare and most of a very very good quality.
Congrats to your new acquisition, you should have much fun and honing success!

Thank you all, people, to recommend coticule.be as source of knowledge. Fundamental!
Yesterday night I lapped the stone, pretty easy with 1200 wet-dry sandpaper. It's super soft stone to me, who are used to the translucent arkie and the chinese 12k. All correct... coticule side slurry is like caramelized milk in color, and BBW produces a nice, very beautiful shade of purple.
I use to hone on the bench, so the rounded BBW bottom of the stone currently received a beeswax bedding to make it flat and sticky. Chopped off a 2cm piece from the most rounded extremity to use as a slurry and to interrupt further spreading of an unstabilized fissure.
A cardboard tube is currently it's residence.
    Stone is currently 27 x 4.9cm.
