Default Has anyone ever had this problem

I have a cholera 5k that won't dry out. The stone is a month old and has never been soaked, just sprayed twice. I purchased the stone from an eBay seller. Would like to know how to overcome this problem

Cholera is a serious disease! I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery. A classic auto correct of Chosera joke.. I know lame.

I don't own a Chosera 5k, but someone who does will know what to do. I want to say it isn't normal. Are you sure it's still wet with water or did the seller use something else on it? Was it discoloured like this when you got it?

No stone will hold water that long. It must be oil or some solvent. Unless of course you store your hones in a steambath-har har.

From the pic and from experience with Chosera 5k's

It isn't wet, it just hasn't been lapped flat,, the corners are higher, so that they look lighter and the center still has the original sheen on there..

Grid Lap the hone and see it doesn't equal out

I cannot be positive because it is from a pic across the internet but I still see a stamp on there and that should have gone bye bye after a good grid lapping

I'm glad you pointed that out because like the other two guys I suspected oil was used on it. Maybe it just isn't lapped. The most obvious thing!

Yea, I should spell that right. It"s not solvent, or oil, I"ll give it a good lap and see what happens, thanks, guys

Glen's thought was mine as well, until I noticed the side of the hone, which has that same difference in the colorations. I think, using the technical terminology, something is wonky there.

I don't believe the hone is still wet, but that easily can be tested by laying in upside down on a few stacked paper towels which would leach water out of it. I actually suspect some sort of manufacturing issue that involves some sort of flaw in the binder. But really, I have no clue.

I had a 6k that went funky like that from being soaked too long and the binder going mushy at the surface. Hard to say, lap it first and see how the stone reacts under a blade. Is it autoslurrying at all? Goes without saying, any hone you buy, assume it isn't true/lap/straight edge test for absolute flatness.
