    Default Question about a barbershone.

    Hallo to all of you.
I have a "Morisonīs Special Barber Hone for barbers and private use".
Made in Minneapolis by Morison tool & Hardware co.
On the inside of the box is instructions for use.
It clearly says that the hone should only be used with stoneoil, dry or with water.
And it says in big capital letters:DO NOT USE LATHER.
Now my question. Why is it not suited for use with lather? Can the lather destroy or harm the hone if used.
I find that most of you experts say that using a barbers hone is okay with lather or am I totaly wrong.
    Thanks in advance.

Barbers commonly used lather when honing. Unless there is something special about this hone the maker might just have a thing about lather.

I probably would heed the manufacturers warning and avoid lather.

Must be a chemical reaction they want you to avoid with the binder.

I wonder what the copywriters meant by "gummy" edge? Then they recommend STONOIL, which is likely made by the hone manufacturer. The STONOIL is then declared to be "non-gumming." So gummy is good on the edge but bad on the hone. If lather was possibly the most popular topping for the barber's hone at the time, the manufacturer may have just been trying to peddle an auxiliary product, a fairly common sales strategy.
A "gummy" edge might be the TPT which is more sticky than gummy. In some contexts, the two words could be almost interchangeable.
