Does it slurry? What color?
From the scratches on the face, looks soft, saw mark on the side & looks Thüringen sized, it’s a slate.
The other dark stone you have is the interesting one. That looks like a hard finisher…

They're all pics of the same stone actually. I used it last night for the first time after a progression of 1k, 5k, 8k. I did 50 x strokes on just water and there didn't seem to be much improvement but then I did 50 or so more on dmt slurry and that made a hell of a difference. Really took care of the 8k scratches. I'm gonna shave here in a bit and see how she goes. I tried taking pics with my USB microscope of the final edge bit it's a cheap one and I couldn't get good pics and gave up out of frustration lol. I'll try again. The slurry gets good and creamy and is a dark gray color. Attachment 220061
Yea, that’s a slate probably a Thüringen, should be a nice finisher, try some Smith’s Honing solution just a 2-3 drops on a wet stone. Really gives a nice polish.
I’m talking about the other black stone with rust colored streaks that you posted in the other thread. It looks like some hard Jnats I have seen.
Perhaps similar to this one I recently scored: note the unfinished side and archive number. Still not sure what it is yet either:

Ah ok. Haven't played with that one too much yet. I'm pretty concerned though about all the fissures and the one side that seems like it would be most usable has a strange texture. The comparison that comes to mind are the ridges in your skin when it'a been in water too long. Maybe I can lap past it. It doesn't seem nearly as hard as my Ozuku Asagi but that one's super hard. Someone said it might be an Aoto and someone said Turkish oilstone. I'll report back after I get to play with it some more. Here's a pic of the slurry. Oh and btw the Genco Fluid Steel I honed on the possible Thuri gave an excellent shave. I think I'm really gonna dig this rock. I'll pick up some Smiths and give that a go as well. Thanks again for the input :)Attachment 220067
