Actually, though, I do want to acknowledge you point. I have not yet coated any of my labels out of concern that nail polish or lacquer would damage/degrade the paper label. Obviously embedding the label in some sort of lacquer is a permanent decision and I've been waiting to see if anyone else's labels have gone bad under the coating.
