Not a bad hone.it likes to be soaked for a long time and you need to stay on top of the dishing as it is a little softer than some.
However I keep one in my water bucket/well , to use at times.

If you have a quick way to lap it often all Will be ok.

I just ordered a King 1k hone. Seems to get pretty good reviews by most. Didn't want to drop the $ on a Chosera. Mine didn't come with a support though. I spent $20

I feel like that's going to be a step down from your Naniwa, but people do use them with success.

They're excellent - the one you mentioned is a smaller one though. As Blistersteel said, they require soaking and dish fairly easily, but they are and have been a mainstay of bevel setting for many years. Many people like them and use them.

    Bonne Année!

    Cheers, Steve

I've used King Waterstones for years. As mentioned they are thirsty SOB's so get yourself a gallon of Distilled Water, then add about 1 tbs of plain liquid bleach and keep it covered in a plastic container. Change the water every 6 months or so and you'll not have any 'slime'. Glen (GSSIXGUN) turned me onto this method and he's used it for years. I'll vouch that your hone Will Not Be Harmed! I've been doing this for a couple of years with great results.

As far as worrying about dishing. I don't have a problem as I use slurry Every Time I use my King 1200/so the hone is lightly lapped Every Time I use it/I not only like to use the slurry I like a clean surface when I hone.

Also my King is about 2.5" wide and a little over 8"s long and I have no problem, in fact I enjoy it very much.

I hope this is of some help.

I also use a King 1000 grit frequently with good results. It lives in a water tank with bleach added as per above. I always flatten it before use, and frequently use it with slurry, so no dishing problems. If you do use it with slurry, diluting to pure water before moving to your next stone will give you a cleaner finish and less work at the next stage. I've been using mine for about a dozen years now and it's only lost about 1/4" of thickness in that time. Well worth the $20 I paid for it back then!
