Thanked: 3795You have no need for the Norton 4/8k yet. Since you have magnification and a Norton 1k, you need to spend some time setting the bevels on that 1k.

Thanked: 0I am aware of this month I was merely stating there was no real rush as I cannot finish the blade with out the 4k 8k and as they are not due for delivery till late in the week I won't be rushing myself

Thanked: 3795Certainly I understand that there is no rush, but in the mean time you can learn a lot with just a 1k hone and magnification. Patience to do the necessary 1k work is crucial for any honer. In fact, you should be able to get a decent shave off of a proper 1k edge, so I was just encouraging you to take advantage of the time.

I've had edges off a 325 DMT mow arm hair. The lighter the touch the finer the edge. What Randy taught me.
If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Thanked: 0Ok, just finished having a play. I have gotten the edge really close though there is still a little room for improvement. Here is my progress so far

Thanked: 0Now correct me if I am wrong but photos 1 and 2 have an uneven age so requires a little more work but I am nearly there in terms of bevel setting?

Thanked: 481Photo 1 I still see what looks like a decent chip that needs attention. My knowledge is limited so I won't hazard a guess to bevel set - to check mine I set the razor straight up on it's spine and look at the blade straight downward. When I don't see any more shiny spots and can't define the apex where the edges meet because it's so tiny it disappears I figure I've got it right.

Thanked: 0That's what my edge looks like so bevel is there I just have the first 1/8th of the razor with some small chipping and a pretty decent one. Will just rework it a little and show the end result then when norton gets ere I will do 4k and 8 k then show results then 12k and results

Thanked: 0I have noticed that there doesn't seem to be any solid tutorial on razor sharpening. Like do this with this untill your razor looks like this. Then the next stage and so on progressively showing the stages from what to look for in the beginning to the end result.
Is there any reason for this?

Thanked: 481Probably because the more you hone, the less time you spend looking under a microscope. Folks with more experience than I seem to rely on thumb pad and shave tests.
And every once in a while someone will come along with a scope like yours and make a thread like this. I think pcm has 2 or 3 rolling right now where you can see a razor at the bevel set stage, all the way through the final polish. They exist, there just isn't one stickied.
