Could it be frictionite ?? or a reconstituted coticule, it looks pretty fine from where I sit.

Both sides seem pretty fine...maybe 1k and 4k just guessing. Never had a reconstituted coticule.

That one is for knives, not razors...not a coticule.

If you are looking to learn to hone, we who have been around the block a few times recommend that you start out with synthetic stones like Naniwa, Norton, or Shapton's. I have gone through over a dozen coticules and have yet to find one of my own that is what I could consider a quality stone. I've found a fair one, but that's it.

Thanks, I do have the Shapton glass stones, Nortons and Barber hones as well as some coticules. I did not look at it closely when I purchased it. I would like to identify it but suspect that may not be possible. I suspect it may be a King 1k 3k the yellow seems close o my Norton 4k but maybe smoother.

I am not a coticule expert.
