I think it's time to consider honing
Over the last year I have learned a great deal about straight razor shaving. My last major piece of the puzzle is honing. Is there a good primer on this topic? I don't ever mind investing on good tools so I probably would like to buy a nice stone. Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Thanked: 250You can't go wrong by going to youtube to watch Lynn Abrams and gssixgun. Even though I've been honing my own razors for over 40 years I picked up tips by watching these two guys.

Thank you. I just watched a video by Geofatboy on this topic. I guess I just have to break down and figure out which stones to buy.

Some great notes....
Look for a mentor in your area and if you can, attend a meet-up.
A few hours with some coaching will save you a great deal of time and frustration.
And at a meet you will get to see a large selection of options.
Think about what you want to do.
If it's maintain your own razors and you don't have damage to repair you would be amazed at what you can do with the 12k Naniwa....and something to lap it with.
Good luck, it can be very satisfying to hone/maintain your own.Support Movember!

Thanked: 3795Just to clarify, if you want to post any more questions about honing, please post them in the Honing Section. Also, if you look at the top of that section, you will find three red stickies. Read them completely at least a couple of times. You will find them to be quite helpful.
